Celebrate Children's Week 2026 with creativity, culture and community.
Messy Hands, Dream Homes: Co-Creating Our Spaces
Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion.
Join us for a fun, colourful and creative Children's Week celebration! Children aged 2–6 and their families are invited to explore creativity, culture and community through a hands-on collaborative art workshop in the Glen Eira area.
Using their hands, fingers and feet, children will paint their dream homes on large shared canvases using child-friendly, non-toxic and washable paints.
Through art, storytelling and cultural sharing, we aim to celebrate every child's identity, imagination and sense of belonging.
Sunday, 25 October 2026 (proposed)
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (family program)
Within Glen Eira City Council area, Melbourne, Victoria (specific venue to be confirmed)
Children aged 2–6 (with parent or guardian)
FREE
Limited to 15 families
Volunteers and staff arrive from 12:30 PM for venue setup. Final pack-down runs until approximately 5:30 PM.
Up to 15 families will be organised into three groups of five families. Each group co-creates one large “Dream Homes” canvas (three canvases in total).
Allergy-aware afternoon tea, fruit, juice, and tea or coffee for parents and carers will be provided during the sharing circle.
The intercultural sharing circle runs for approximately 90 minutes as planned in our grant application. The format is flexible — with small-group conversations, refreshments and movement breaks — so young children are not expected to sit still for the entire period.
Completed artworks may be displayed at a local community centre after the event, subject to venue partner approval.
Times are indicative and may be adjusted slightly on the day to keep children safe and engaged.
Family sign-in, a brief welcome from Vireon Foundation Inc., introduction to the Children's Week theme, and a simple explanation of how the activity works, including safety and supervision expectations.
Families create together on three large “Dream Homes” canvases. Children use fingers, hands, feet and washable paint to express their idea of home and cultural background. Groups rotate so each canvas is shared by five families.
Parents help children wash hands and feet. Volunteers prepare artworks for display and set up the sharing circle and afternoon tea.
Families share stories behind their artworks — family life, traditions and cultural heritage. Allergy-aware refreshments are served. Activities are paced for young children, with small-group sharing and breaks rather than one long seated session.
The three finished canvases are presented. We thank participating families and acknowledge government support. Optional group photos (with parent consent) and brief feedback from families.
Volunteers and staff set up the space: waterproof floor coverings, three large canvases, paints, cleaning supplies and afternoon tea. Child safety checks and family registration materials are prepared.
Volunteers clean the venue, pack materials, secure artworks and complete an equipment checklist.
Parents or guardians must accompany and supervise their children throughout the event.
Supported by the Victorian Government through the 2026 Children's Week Grants Program.
